Workshops conducted by local or international teachers are offered, as well as, continuing classes for more intensive study. Arts related to calligraphy, such as bookbinding, artistic paper treatments, papermaking, and more, are also explored in our classes.
Workshop policy
- Workshops hosted by the society are based on interest and the availability of a volunteer coordinator. A minimum number of participants are determined and if there are insufficient registrations, a course may be cancelled (at the discretion of the Workshop Coordinators and the FCS executive). A waiting list is established when a workshop is filled. Placements in a workshop are on a first-come, first-served basis and recorded in order of date receipt by post office mark.
- Registration status is confirmed by email or phone as soon as possible
- Applications must be submitted by mail and postmarked no sooner than the date specified on the registration form. Cheques are payable to Fairbank Calligraphy Society and must accompany your registration form.
- Members vs. non-members A surcharge may be levied to registrants not belonging to the FCS. Members will have priority over non-members for all workshops and courses.
- Refunds: Once payment has been made there are no refunds issued due to the applicant’s cancellation unless the spot can be filled by someone from the waitlist. Special circumstances will be handled at the discretion of the Executive committee. If the workshop is cancelled, your full payment will be returned to you.
- A member who billets the instructor can attend the workshop at no cost. Billeting includes: transportation to the workshop, accommodation and meals for the instructor. If we cannot find a member to billet an instructor, the FCS pays for accommodation, transportation and food from the workshop budget.
- A workshop coordinator receives 50% off the cost of the workshop if the workshop has reached the minimum financial break-even point for registration
